Hearts of Fire 2013 A Success! Chapter Hits 100 Member Mark!
Chapter Elections to be Held!
Applause sounded throughout the Redan Crossing Library as ASU Dekalb heard the
results from the 2013 Hearts of Fire scholarship fundraiser. All reporting
dubbed it a success. New members Maxine Williams and Angela Arnold Ellington
said, "It was my first time attending, and I had a great time."
President Tamara Nelson said, “It was great to hear positive feedback from
members who attended Hearts of Fire for the first time! "
There was also plenty of applause when Membership Co-Chair Neva Jones announced
that ASU Dekalb had reached 100 Active Members!
The chapter pledged support for the upcoming Alumni Founder's Day Luncheon on
April 5. It's being held in the Student Center Ball
Room on the ASU campus. Members wanting a ticket, at the chapter table or
individual, should email president@asuramsdekalb.com.
President Nelson told us that all are welcome to attend the February 23rd
chapter information session in Albany. For more information email: president@asuramsdekalb.com.
Nelson also says it is time to re-elect all Officers. Nelson reflected, “It
doesn’t feel like 2 years.” The Constitution and By Laws state that officers
shall be elected for a term of two years. They may be re-elected and shall not
exceed two terms. Nominations will be accepted, from active members at the
March meeting for ALL offices. The vote, by active members, will be held at the
April meeting. Outgoing VP Darryl Frazier said, "It has been my pleasure
to serve. I will continue to support the outstanding efforts of ASU Dekalb."
Other officers have completed their second term. Follow your email for more
announcements from the Nominations Committee.
The Betts Family, Stephenson High School, made a brief stop by the meeting.
Nelson said, "You never know when and where you will run into students and
parents interested in ASU."
Nelson commended member Gale Belton for receiving the Perseverance Award for
advocating for the deaf and hard of hearing to receive parity for behavioral
health services in Georgia. Congratulations Gale!
Member Ruby Crews was applauded for her effort in getting the Stephenson High
School Chorus and performers to the 2013 Legislative Conference of GAAHBSU.
Way to go Ruby!
Grady Yancey won the 50/50 Raffle. Great. Don't spend it all in one place!
Information just received: The chapter is asked to pray for member Janice Evans
following illness. She is now home after being hospitalized.
Thanks for Reading and for Your Continued Support,
