ASU AND ASU DEKALB HOLD ADMISSIONS ASSISTANCE FAIR

How many prospective university students can actually say that they were greeted in their hometown by the president of a university?

Well, several possible enrollees of Albany State University are able to say that they met with ASU President Dr. Everette Freeman on Saturday, July 28, 2012.  Freeman attended the Admissions Assistance Fair, a collaboration of ASU and the Dekalb County Area Alumni Chapter, held in Lithonia, Georgia.

Freeman says, "It is so important for our university and alumni to come together in recruiting our students. Thanks so much to the Dekalb Chapter for pulling this together for us."

ASU Dekalb President Tamara Nelson says, "I am just so glad that the chapter was able to assist the University on such short notice. I was so surprised to see Dr. Freeman, but very appreciative that he was able to attend and to speak to the students that came to the Admissions Assistance Fair."

ASU National Alumni Association President Joycia Ricks also attended the event. She says, "I am very happy that I was able to attend this Admissions Assistance Fair. I hope that the students were able to gain some wonderful insight into our beautiful university."

ASU Alumni Affairs Director Wendy Wilson was joined by several members of the Admissions and Housing departments from ASU. Among the staff members were Melody Pierce, Denata Williams, Tamara Atwater, Dwana Trimble, and Detrenyona Chester,

Nelson is very grateful to the members of her Scholarship and Recruitment Committee for helping with Saturday's event.  They included  Thomas Greene, Jimmy Brown, Michelle Jones, Kim Geter, Rodney Banks, Ethel Johnson, and Maria Boynton.

BROWN PRESENTS $1000.00 CHECK TO ASU

ASU Dekalb Chapter members Merita( '71) and Jimmy Brown ('70) have presented the University with a Tuition/Book scholarship in the amount of $1000.00.  Jimmy gave the check to ASU President Everette Freeman and Alumni Affairs Director Wendy Wilson during Saturday's Admissions Assistance Fair in Lithonia, Georgia.

Brown says, "We have been able to give scholarships for the last 15 years or so. We have always felt that we have been blessed, therefore we wanted to give something back to the University. Albany State University is one of the reasons we were able to give that One Thousand Dollars."

A very happy Dr. Freeman said, in accepting the check from Brown, "It's a sunny Saturday afternoon, he (Brown) could have been doing so many other things today, yet he came to this recruitment event, and presented us with an unsolicited check. He's absolutely golden."
